Combine GIFs Side by Side or in Sequence
Combine GIFs Online - Merge GIF Animations Please upload at least 2 GIFs to combine
ReadyHow to put GIFs side by side, stack them or play them in a row
Combine GIF animations into a new animated result. Choose the arrangement, alignment and spacing, and use the available resizing or transition controls to bring differently sized sources together. Check how the animations line up over time as well as how they fit on the canvas. If you want to assemble still images with individual frame timings, use GIF Maker.
Cost: Free to use. File size and usage limits apply.
How to combine GIFs
Add at least two GIFs
Click Choose files and select several GIFs at once, or drop them onto the preview area. Each file can be up to 200 MB. GIFs you uploaded or created in other tools on this site are listed under Uploads; click one to add it. The newest GIF in your uploads is selected automatically, so remove it if it doesn't belong.
Set the order
The numbered cards under the preview show the order of the result: left to right for Side by Side, top to bottom for Stack, first to last for Sequential. Drag a card or use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to move it. The trash icon only removes a GIF from this selection; it stays in Uploads. Add files opens the uploads list again.
Pick the layout and size handling
Choose Layout first, then Size Handling if your GIFs have different dimensions. The preview shows how your GIFs are arranged, so you can check the layout before you combine.
Combine and check the result
Click Combine GIFs. The result replaces the preview. Check where each clip ends and whether edges were cropped or padded, then click Download, or Adjust to change settings and run it again with the same GIFs. The result is also saved to Uploads for the other GIF tools.
What each setting does
Before combining, every GIF is fitted into a cell of the same size: as wide as your widest GIF and as tall as your tallest one, measured separately. Size Handling and Alignment decide how each GIF fills that cell. If all your GIFs have the same dimensions, neither has a visible effect.
- Layout
- Sequential (default) plays the GIFs one after another in the same frame. Side by Side puts them in one row and Stack in one column; in both, all GIFs play at the same time.
- Spacing
- Gap between the GIFs in px, starting at
0px (default). The gap is filled with the Background colour. Spacing applies to the Side by Side and Stack layouts. - Alignment
- Start, Center (default) or End. It places each GIF inside its cell when there is room left over, and with Crop to match it decides which part is kept. Start means the top-left corner and End the bottom-right; the setting always applies to both directions at once.
- Size Handling
- Scale to fit (default) enlarges or shrinks each GIF until it fits the cell without cropping and fills the leftover bars with the background; small GIFs that get enlarged look softer. Crop to match scales each GIF until it covers the whole cell and cuts off what sticks out, so there are no bars but edges are lost. Pad smaller GIFs keeps every GIF at its original pixel size and surrounds smaller ones with background.
- Transition
- None (Instant) (default), Fade or Slide, where the next GIF moves in from the right and pushes the previous one out to the left. Transitions belong to the Sequential layout; Transition Duration sets how long each one lasts.
- Transition Duration
0–1500ms on the slider, in 50 ms steps. Each transition overlaps the end of one GIF with the start of the next, so every join makes the result shorter by that amount. The duration is capped at the length of your shortest GIF minus 0.05 seconds. With a transition, all clips are brought to one common frame rate between 10 and 30 fps, matched to your GIFs.- Background
- Colour picker, default black (
#000000). Fills the bars from Scale to fit and Pad smaller GIFs and the Spacing gaps. Transparent pixels inside your GIFs stay transparent.
How long the combined GIF plays
In Sequential mode without a transition, each GIF plays once, in list order, with its own frame timing. A 3-second, a 2-second and a 4-second GIF make a 9-second result. With a 500 ms Fade, the two joins overlap by 0.5 seconds each, so the result runs 8 seconds.
Side by Side and Stack start all GIFs at the same moment and end when the shortest one ends. Longer GIFs are cut off, not looped to fill the time: a 2-second and a 4-second GIF next to each other give 2 seconds, and the second half of the longer one is missing. To keep both complete, bring them to the same length first with GIF Speed.
The finished GIF always loops endlessly, whatever loop setting your source files had. In the side-by-side layouts every loop restarts all GIFs together, so they stay in sync.
Worked example: how big the result gets
Take a 480 × 270 px GIF and a 320 × 240 px GIF, choose Side by Side with 10 px Spacing and keep Scale to fit and Center. The cell is 480 × 270 px. The second GIF has a 4:3 shape, so it is scaled to 360 × 270 px and gets a 60 px background bar on the left and right. The result is 970 × 270 px: two 480 px cells plus the 10 px gap.
With Stack, the same pair becomes 480 × 550 px. Crop to match would enlarge the second GIF to 480 × 360 px and cut 45 px from the top and bottom. Pad smaller GIFs would leave it at 320 × 240 px with 80 px of background left and right and 15 px above and below.

Frequently asked questions
Why is part of my longer GIF missing in the side-by-side result?
Because Side by Side and Stack stop when the shortest GIF ends; longer GIFs are not looped to fill the time. Bring all GIFs to the same length first with the GIF Speed tool, or use Sequential if they don't need to play at the same time.
Can I put a GIF inside another GIF?
The three layouts place GIFs side by side, in a vertical stack or one after another. Each GIF has its own cell; placing a GIF over or inside another GIF is outside this tool's settings.
Can I combine GIFs into one video?
The result is always a GIF. Combine first, then convert the combined GIF with GIF to MP4. An MP4 of the same animation can be smaller; the actual size depends on the image content.
Why do the colours look different, or the file is bigger than expected?
A GIF holds at most 256 colours, and the combined GIF uses one palette for all inputs. GIFs with very different colour schemes have to share it, so gradients can band or pick up dither noise, which also compresses poorly. Side-by-side layouts add frames too: a new frame is written whenever any of the GIFs changes. Prefer Pad smaller GIFs over enlarging small GIFs, or reduce the result with Optimize GIF.
How do I add a fade between my GIFs?
Choose the Sequential layout, pick Fade or Slide under Transition and set Transition Duration, for example 500 ms. Each fade overlaps two neighbouring clips, so the result gets a little shorter per join.
Are my GIFs uploaded to a server?
Yes. Combining runs on our servers with FFmpeg, and no external service receives your files. Uploads and results are deleted automatically after 48 hours for guests and after 30 days for free accounts; paid plans can keep files longer.
