How to turn a plain draft into Reddit Markdown

Turn draft text into Reddit-friendly Markdown using your formatting instructions. Specify the desired structure, such as headings, bullets or a compact comparison, and review the generated text before copying it. The tool helps prepare a post; it does not publish to Reddit. Check links and factual claims as well as the formatting in Reddit’s own preview.

Cost: Free within the available allowance. Usage limits apply; see the guide below.

How to format a Reddit post

  1. Paste your draft

Type or paste the text into Text to Format. If your draft is a voice memo or a screenshot, get the text first with Audio Transcription or Image OCR. Try Example loads a sample draft and replaces whatever is in the box.

  2. Add instructions if you need something specific

Use Special Instructions (Optional) for a TL;DR at the top, numbered steps, a table or no headings. Leave it empty for the defaults described below.

  3. Pick a model

AI Model starts on Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite. Switch to Gemini 3.6 Flash for long or messy drafts and detailed instructions.

  4. Format

Click Format for Reddit. The button shows Formatting... while the job runs on our server. The result appears under Formatted Text for Reddit, with the preview beside it (below it on narrow screens).

  5. Check, edit and copy

Fix anything directly in the result box; the preview follows your edits. Then click Copy Formatted or Download Markdown (.txt) before you reload or leave the page, because the page does not keep the result.

Settings and buttons

Text to Format
Required. Plain text, or text that already contains Markdown. There is no fixed character limit.
Special Instructions (Optional)
The model is told it must follow these, and they come before the built-in rules, so you can also switch defaults off. Be concrete: Add a TL;DR at the top, No headings, this is a comment, Put the prices in a table.
AI Model
Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite (default) runs with minimal reasoning and suits short posts and comments. Gemini 3.6 Flash reasons more before it writes; as a rule of thumb, it handles long drafts, tables and multi-part instructions better.
Show Preview / Hide Preview
Toggles a reading view of your input, or of the result once there is one. It switches on by itself after formatting.
Copy Original, Copy Formatted, Download Markdown (.txt)
Copy Original copies your unformatted input. The other two use the result including your edits; the download is a UTF-8 plain-text file named reddit-post.txt.

What the formatter changes by default

Without special instructions the model follows a built-in Reddit Markdown reference and these rules. It is told not to change the meaning, add content or remove anything.

Structure

Headings (#, ##, ###) for major sections, blank lines between paragraphs and --- rules between large sections where they help.

Emphasis

Double asterisks for bold key points, single asterisks for italics. ~~strikethrough~~, >!spoilers!< and ^superscript only when the text calls for them.

Lists

Bullets with - or *. Numbered lists use 1. rather than 1), because the parenthesis form does not render on old Reddit.

Links and mentions

Bare URLs become [descriptive text](url) when the context makes a label obvious. r/subreddit and u/username stay as Reddit auto-links.

Code and tables

Commands and file names in single backticks, multi-line code and terminal output in triple-backtick blocks, structured data as a table with | separators.

TL;DR

Long posts get a TL;DR summary line at the beginning or end. Write No TL;DR in Special Instructions (Optional) to prevent it.

What the preview shows

The preview is a reading view, not a Reddit render. It removes heading markers (#, ##, ###) and asterisk bold and italic markers so you can read the flow of the post. Lists, links, tables, quotes, code blocks and spoilers stay visible as raw Markdown.

To see the final look, paste the result into Reddit's editor in Markdown mode and check it there before you post.

Input, output and limits

Input
Text typed or pasted into Text to Format; no file upload. The tool cannot place images: upload a screenshot with Share Files and put the link in your draft.
Output
Reddit Markdown as plain text, editable on the page. Copy it or download reddit-post.txt (UTF-8).
Maximum length
No fixed character limit; the formatted reply is capped at 8,192 tokens.
Texts per run
1
Processing
On our servers. Your text and special instructions are sent to Google's Gemini API with the model you picked.
Usage limits
Daily limits apply. The AI allowance is counted separately for each model, and longer texts use more of it.
Watermark
None. No credit line or link is added to your text.
Storage
No file is created, so nothing is added to the file manager. Your text, instructions and the result are saved with the job record on our server.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Reddit show asterisks and # signs instead of formatting?

The text was pasted into the rich-text mode of Reddit's editor, which treats Markdown symbols as ordinary characters. Switch the editor to Markdown mode, then paste. On old Reddit the text box always reads Markdown.

How do I format code for Reddit?

Short commands and file names go in single backticks, for example npm install. For multi-line code the formatter uses triple-backtick blocks, which old Reddit does not display as a code block. If readers may use old Reddit, write Use 4-space indented code blocks in Special Instructions (Optional); indented blocks render on both versions.

How long can my draft be?

There is no fixed character limit for the input, but the formatted reply is limited to 8,192 tokens per run. For very long posts, such as a multi-part guide, format one section at a time.

Will the AI change what I wrote?

It is instructed to keep your meaning, tone and content and only add structure. Expect headings, bold key terms, labelled links and, for long posts, a TL;DR line. Models can still slip, so compare numbers, quotes and links with your draft.

Is my text private?

It is processed on our server, sent to Google's Gemini API for formatting and saved with the job record. Don't paste passwords, API keys or personal details you wouldn't publish on Reddit anyway.

What can I do when I hit the daily limit?

The AI allowance is tracked separately for each model, so switching AI Model to the other Gemini model can let you continue. Otherwise, try again the next day.
